Elon Musk paid a surprise visit to China. Tesla's founder met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang to talk about Tesla's future. The idea is to enable the introduction of Full Self-Driving (FSD) in China. It also wants to send data collected in this country abroad to improve the algorithms responsible for controlling the system.

Recent reports show that Tesla's autonomous driving modes have resulted in at least 13 accidents in the US, in which one person died. The safety of the FSD system was handled by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It found that drivers involved in accidents “were not sufficiently engaged” in driving when using the driving assistance system. The software introduced in Tesla cars is intended to ensure that drivers are properly focused and that the function is used only in appropriate conditions, e.g. while driving on highways.

According to Chinese media reports, during the meeting with the Chinese Prime Minister, Musk talked about Tesla's willingness to cooperate with China to “achieve more mutually beneficial results”. In response, Li Qiang said that the Chinese market “will always be open to foreign companies “.

China is Tesla's second largest market.

Musk's trip coincided with the Beijing Auto Show, which started last week, where global and Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers present their latest models, fighting for customers in the world's largest electric vehicle market.
