Donald Tusk is forming a government. There are new names of future ministers
The list of names of future ministers in Donald Tusk’s government is booming. Not only personal details are being negotiated, but also the division of portfolios between coalition partners from the Civic Coalition, Third Way and the New Left. We have collected the latest news.
Although Mateusz Morawiecki was the first to be given the mission of forming a government by President Andrzej Duda, Donald Tusk is equally serious about forming a cabinet. If PiS fails to form a government, which seems highly likely given the lack of a majority and coalition partners, he will be responsible for forming a cabinet. If Law and Justice uses constitutional deadlines, this may happen only before the holidays.
Tusk will have two deputy prime ministers
The leader of the Civic Coalition wants to use this time to create a strong government and reconcile the interests of the coalition partners. It is known from the coalition agreement that Tusk will have two deputy prime ministers. The personal details are not a secret here: it is Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz from PSL and the vice-chairman of the New Left, Krzysztof Gawkowski. The leader of the People’s Party will receive an additional portfolio of the Minister of National Defense, and the Left has been assigned digitalization. For Poland 2050, the position of Speaker of the Sejm was taken by Szymon Hołownia.
The division of ministries between coalition partners and personalities arouses more emotions. More “sure things” appear on the name exchange, although there is no official confirmation. As we reported in “Wprost”, a spectacular return can be expected in Donald Tusk’s government – Radosław Sikorski is to be considered for the position of the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Which ministries for the Civic Coalition?
According to “Wyborcza”, the Civic Coalition will also appoint the following ministries: interior affairs, justice, finance, state assets, culture, health and sports. PO Secretary General Marcin Kierwiński is mentioned as a potential future head of the first of them.
Izabela Leszczyna may take over the health ministry. Initially, Bartosz Arłukowicz, who already held this position, was supposed to receive the offer. However, the former MEP allegedly refused, explaining that he wanted to focus on the Sejm.
The new face in Tusk’s puzzle is to be Andrzej Domański as Minister of Finance. He is one of PO’s economic experts. The future government will also include positions for Borys Budka and Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz. The former, like Adam Bodnar, is being considered for the portfolio of the Minister of Justice. Sienkiewicz, who is one of Tusk’s closest collaborators, may be responsible for the Ministry of Culture. In the case of Budka, another option is being considered: appointing him as the minister of state assets. This is an important ministry that supervises state-owned companies, and it is also to be used to reform TVP.
Education is a bone of contention between the New Left and its coalition partners
According to the findings of “Wyborcza”, the coalition partners do not yet agree on who will be responsible for the Ministry of Education. Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, a representative of the New Left, is in play here, but the Civic Coalition is also trying to take over this ministry. PO politicians are afraid that education in the hands of the left may lead to an ideological conflict, e.g. in the context of a secular school. Tusk has not yet given up the fight for this ministry, in which he sees Barbara Nowacka.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs and the Ministry of Family and Social Policy are to be transferred to the New Left, where Katarzyna Kotula is expected to be the minister. Poland 2050 is to be assigned to the Ministry of Climate and Environment. Paulina Hennig-Kloska may become its head. The person interested in Polsat News did not want to comment on these speculations. However, she did not deny that she had received an offer. “Wyborcza” reports that Michał Kobosko also has a chance for the ministry, who may be responsible for the Ministry of Funds and Regional Development.
PSL will receive more than just agriculture
Politicians from the Polish People’s Party are being tried for three ministries. Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz is to be appointed Minister of National Defense. Dariusz Klimczak may take over the Ministry of Infrastructure. Czesław Siekierski, who was the deputy head of this ministry in 2001-03, is being considered for the Ministry of Agriculture, which is crucial for the People’s Party.
The second candidate is MP Zbigniew Ziejewski, who has declared his readiness to take over the ministry after Robert Telus. According to the findings of “Wyborcza”, the People’s Party still has plans to appoint the Ministry of Development and Technology, to which Krzysztof Hetman is being considered.
