Cyberpunk 2 is already in development. CD Projekt Red about preparations

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. I returned to the game after three years. Couldn't it have been this way from the beginning?

CD Projekt is saying goodbye to Cyberpunk 2077, but the Polish developer is already working on Cyberpunk 2. A sequel called Orion is currently in the pre-production phase, as one of the designers said.

CD Projekt relatively recently released the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion. However, the company has long announced that this will be the first and only DLC for the game and a kind of farewell to the title. However, Poles have long-term plans for new productions, including the second part of Cyberpunk, a project code-named Orion. Recently we learned a little more about him.

Cyberpunk 2 – CD Projekt Red is gathering a team for Orion

Paweł Sasko, lead quest designer at CD Projekt Red, recently spoke about his work in the company and the background of creating Cyberpunk. In an almost hour-and-a-half-long interview for The Neon Arcade channel, the designer reveals many tidbits and even reveals some secrets about the sequel.

Of course, Cyberpunk 2 won’t hit shelves for many years. Currently, the title is in the pre-production phase, but a team is already being selected. For now, however, this is about the most important people, project managers and directors, who will pave the way for the new game.

The thing is, when you’re in the ideation and pre-production phase, you don’t want to have too big of a team because it complicates too many things. To clarify the vision in the best way, you simply need several stakeholders and it is best to develop it within this group to maintain the consistency of the entire brand – explained Sasko.

A key element for CD Projekt seems to be gathering people who have already worked well together while working on Cyberpunk 2077. This seems to be a logical idea, because the new Cyberpunk will probably develop existing ideas and expand the already established universe.

Only at the next stage will CDPR begin intensive recruitment for the positions of experts and senior specialists. They will also face new challenges, because the game will be developed in Unreal Engine 5.

Adam Kiciński will not be the president of CD Projekt

As we wrote in Wprost.pl, CD Projekt has recently undergone quite a few changes. Although the premiere of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty received a lot of attention on the market, sales did not meet shareholders’ expectations and share prices fell.

At the same time, Adam Kiciński, president and one of the founders of the studio, announced that he intended to resign from his position in 2025. His goal is to sit on the supervisory board of CDP.

“We built the studio, starting with a small team of five people – today it numbers over a thousand people and we are constantly growing. My decision today is carefully considered. I am convinced that the company is stronger today than ever, has great potential and a great strategy. She is also perfectly prepared for this change,” Kiciński wrote in a statement.
