Changes in the trade ban inevitable? The head of the trade union speaks out
Everything indicates that when the KO-Trzecia Droga-Lewica coalition takes power, the rules of the Sunday trading ban will be changed. – We are looking forward to a return to a broader discussion about the rules of work on Sunday and payment for it, says Piotr Ostrowski, head of OPZZ, in an interview with Business Insider.
The Civic Coalition and Third Droga plan to eliminate the ban on Sunday trading introduced by the Law and Justice government. — The OPZZ confederation does not have a uniform position on the issue of the Sunday trading ban. Different views clash. Trade membership organizations strongly support the current restrictions. This is understandable and we respect their position. However, there are also voices from other industries who emphasize that the current solutions are not beneficial, said Piotr Ostrowski, head of OPZZ, in an interview with Business Insider.
Two Sundays off
How the Sunday Trading Ban Act will be amended is still under discussion. Already at the stage of introducing the regulations, it was said that the act favored only one group of employees, leaving behind representatives of other industries, such as gastronomy, who also have to work on Sundays. It is therefore possible that the new provisions will be broader.
— All these employees should be provided with at least two Sundays off a month. This is part of our program. If there are specific proposals to eliminate or limit the ban, as a confederation we will adopt our position on such a project and we will be looking forward to a return to a broader discussion on the rules of work on Sunday and payment for it – emphasizes the head of OPZZ.
Domański on the restoration of Sunday trading
The co-creator of the Civic Coalition’s economic program and one of the favorites to become the Minister of Finance, Andrzej Domański, made a clear declaration in a recent interview for Business Insider Polska regarding the restoration of Sunday trading. – We are restoring trade on Sundays – said Domański.
The portal’s interlocutor recalled that this was one of the announcements in the framework “100 specifics for 100 days”. It assumes the restoration of commercial Sundays, but guaranteeing employees two weekends off a month and a bonus for working on Sunday.
