Appeal of Kamiński and Wąsik’s wives to the Minister of Justice. “Will you keep your word?”
Barbara Kamińska and Roma Wąsik appealed to Adam Bodnar to fulfill his declaration. – You publicly assured that you would send the files and the decision to the president within a few days – Kamińska recalled.
On January 9, Law and Justice MPs Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik – contrary to the act of mercy issued against them by President Andrzej Duda in 2015 – were detained by the police.
Bodnar has still not responded to Duda’s request
The next day they were sent to prisons – Kamiński in Radom, Wąsik in Przytuły Stare – where they served two years in prison. As a sign of protest against the above-mentioned circumstances, both of them started a hunger strike from the first day of their imprisonment.
Therefore, on January 11, the president initiated pardon proceedings against Kamiński and Wąsik. At the same time, he sent a request to the Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General Adam Bodnar for their release from prison before the end of the proceedings.
This possibility is provided for in Art. 568 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. However, Bodnar still did not respond to the president’s request, although he declared that it would happen within “a few days.”
Roma Wąsik: You haven’t done anything so far
On Monday, January 22, a recording was published on X (formerly Twitter) in which the MPs’ wives, Barbara Kamińska and Roma Wąsik, appealed to Bodnar. It is worth adding that earlier there were reports about the deteriorating health of their husbands.
– 10 days have passed since the meeting during which we asked you to take action to release our husbands from prison while the pardon proceedings are conducted and to hand over the files. So far you have done nothing. Will you keep your word? – asked Roma Wąsik.
– You publicly assured that you would send the files and the decision to the president within a few days. However, there are still no decisions and no specific details on your part, commented Barbara Kamińska.
Regular demonstrations outside prisons
The video includes a shot of a crowd of protesters shouting, “Hand over the files.” This is a fragment of one of the demonstrations that regularly take place in front of the plants in Radom and Przytuły Stare as a sign of solidarity with Kamiński and Wąsik.
Let us recall that on January 10, their former colleagues and friends established the “Committee for the Defense of Political Prisoners” association.
– When the president was meeting with Belarusian oppositionists, the services subordinated to the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration (Marcin Kierwiński – ed.) forcibly detained members of the Sejm. Members of Parliament granted immunity, pardoned by the President. These are political prisoners, explained Błażej Poboży, former deputy head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration.
