Apartment with an area of 2.5 sq m. Extreme project in Krakow
The fashion for micro-apartments, which are especially popular in Asia, is also reaching Poland. One of such projects was built in Krakow and has an area of only 2.5 square meters.
Micro-apartments, especially popular in Asia, are increasingly entering the Polish market. Apartments with an area of several square meters are very popular in cities such as Tokyo, Seoul and Taipei, mainly due to the high density of cities. This type of apartments is mainly chosen by single people who travel a lot and who spend little time in apartments. This model is also slowly becoming visible in European cities, where developers are increasingly deciding to build studio apartments with an area not exceeding 20 square meters.
As with any fashion of this type, there are also extreme designs. In Krakow, one of the companies offering this type of solutions, designed a micro-apartment with an area of 2.5 square meters. The premises were designed in such a way that it could accommodate a bed, an office, a kitchenette, and a toilet with a shower. Due to the size of the premises, the designers had to make many compromises. One of them is bathroom equipment. The toilet is located in the shower cabin. The bed is suspended from the ceiling, which may give the impression of staying in a capsule hotel. Thanks to this, however, we managed to free up some space for a small desk that will fit a laptop, and to add a microwave oven and an electric kettle to the room.
Popular despite fears
– We were worried about how our 2.5-meter-long premises would be received, especially since the idea seemed out of space from the very beginning. When the architect received the order, he was speechless with surprise. But the popularity of the apartment exceeded our expectations. Customers make reservations well in advance, sometimes several months in advance. Some people rent it out of curiosity, others to see if they can cope, but the majority are those who are fans of minimalism. – Filip Różanski, the apartment operator, told the lifeinkrakow.pl portal.
As the owner of the premises assures, there is no shortage of people willing to rent it. Even though some people believe that it is impossible to live in such a small space, there are people who are looking for such solutions on the market. This is a model that would probably not work on a larger scale, but it fits well into the niche that has emerged on the Polish market.
