A gigantic sensation on the courts of Roland Garros! “Światek's Nightmare” outside the tournament
Jasimne Paolini will play in the singles semi-final of the tournament at Roland Garros in Paris. The Italian sensationally defeated favorite Jelena Rybakina in the quarterfinals.
Before the tournament in Paris started, it was known that there were three main favorites to win the singles competition. On the courts named after Roland Garros cards were to be dealt by: Iga Świątek, Aryna Sabalenka and Jelena Rybakina.
However, as it turned out, the third one mentioned in the quarterfinals ended her participation in Paris. Rybakina lost sensationally to Jasmine Paolini in three sets.
Jasmine Paolini sensationally eliminated Jelena Rybakina
Wednesday's quarterfinal did not go the way of the No. 4 tennis player from the beginning, considering the balance of power in the WTA rankings. Rybakina, famous for her strong and accurate shots, lost a lot of her self-confidence, losing the opening game to Paolini relatively easily, 2:6. Kazazka could not find an answer to equally strong, but above all, surprisingly accurate choices on the other side of the net. Paolini clearly surprised the favorite of the quarterfinals.
However, Rybakina's answer was to win set number 2. Kazashka won 6:4 and it seemed that she would not be able to snatch the final success. However, Rybakina made as many as 48 unforced errors. On the one hand, it wasn't the favorite's day, but on the other, it is worth mentioning that Paolini was pressing practically throughout the match. Rybakina had no answer to her better-disposed opponent.
The fact that Rybakina was eliminated is good news for Iga Świątek. The Pole certainly hasn't had an easy time with the Kazakh in the history of their fights. Kazaszka fell out of the ladder, and Paolini will play in the semi-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career.
It is worth adding that Paolini is a tennis player who, although she represents Italy, has Polish roots. All thanks to the player's mother, who comes from Poland (her father is Italian). Paolini often boasted about her knowledge of Polish with a characteristic smile, for example in conversations with Polish journalists.
