Zandberg on the atom. “We will stand very firm.”
There is no time to delay investment in large nuclear. Changing the location would mean postponing the construction further into the future, believes Adrian Zandberg from the Razem Party. The Pomeranian Voivodeship Office, however, argues that no decision has been made to change the location of the nuclear power plant in Pomerania.
On September 19, 2023, former Pomeranian Voivode Dariusz Drelich issued a decision to indicate the place where the first Polish nuclear power plant would be built. Lubiatowo-Kopalino was indicated, which is located approximately 17 kilometers in a straight line from Łeba. The choice of the town was not a surprise for people interested in the topic, because it had already been talked about before.
Doubts regarding the location of the nuclear power plant
On Wednesday morning, disturbing information appeared that the new Pomeranian Voivode, Beata Rutkiewicz, questioned the previous government’s decision regarding the location. She was supposed to make it clear that talks are still ongoing about whether to propose another location.
Adrian Zandberg was asked about this issue on Radio Zet. The leader of the Razem party emphasized that he and his group are supporters of building a nuclear power plant in Poland.
– We are building the first, and later subsequent, nuclear power plants and this is a position we will stick to very firmly, regardless of whether this or another local government official has any ideas for their local government campaign, Zandberg said in the “Guest of Radio Zet” program.
He later wrote on X that “there is no time to delay investment in large nuclear.” “A change of location would mean postponing construction further into the future. And the country’s climate goals and energy security depend on whether we make it in time. The position of the Razem party: to build, not to interfere,” he wrote.
Pomeranian Voivodeship Office on “false claims”
Dziennik Bałtycki wrote about doubts regarding the location of the power plant. “Not in Lubiatów-Kopalina in the Choczewo commune, but near Żarnowiec in the Krokowa commune – this is the new location of the first nuclear power plant in Poland. This information was provided on January 17 during her visit to Chojnice by the new Pomeranian Voivode, Beata Rutkiewicz,” we read in the newspaper.
The Pomeranian Voivodeship Office took a position on the matter. The statement reads that “it is untrue to say that a decision has been made to change the location of the nuclear power plant in Pomerania.”
“During the meeting on January 17, 2024 in Chojnice, the Pomeranian Voivode indicated that due to the large number of comments and conversations she conducted, it is justified to take a second look at and analyze the issued environmental decision for the location of the power plant in Lubiatowo,” it was written in a message also available on social media .
PUW emphasized that the final decision on the location of the nuclear power plant rests with the government, which will make it “after detailed analyses.”
