This is the end of the EURO dreams for the Polish representative. Brutal diagnosis

Poland advanced to EURO 2024. It is already known that Robert Gumny will not be there. The defender suffered a serious injury that requires many months of rehabilitation.

The Polish national team advanced to EURO 2024 at the last minute. While 23 countries had already secured tickets to Germany, the Polish national team defeated Wales after a dramatic penalty shootout. Although the match emotions have not yet subsided, the discussion about the squad for the June tournament will begin soon. It is already known that there will be one defender missing.

The Polish representative has no chance of playing at EURO 2024

Robert Gumny was not on the list of those called up for the March training camp. Because of this, instead of staying with the squad, he trained with Augsburg during the league break. During one of the last training sessions, the player suffered an injury. Initial information said that there was a serious injury after hyperextension of the knee, after which the 25-year-old could still move his leg.

Over time, it turned out that the player's injury was much more serious than expected. Polish Radio Poznań journalist Grzegorz Hałasik announced on Twitter that Gumny had torn the cruciate ligaments in his knee. If the information is fully confirmed, it will mean a break from the game of at least several months. The defender will not play until the end of the Bundesliga season, and he will also have no chance to play in the European Championships in June.

“Fatal news from Germany: Robert Gumny tore his cruciate ligaments during training yesterday. Today surgery in Poznań. Unfortunately, he will have a longer break from the game, and he wanted to fight for a place in the squad… – wrote Hałasik on social media.

Robert Gumny's statistics

Robert Gumny has played 13 Bundesliga games for Augsburg this season. He made his debut in the national team in 2020 and has since played in six matches. The last one was the first match during Fernando Santos' term (1:3 with the Czech team).
