The president gave an interview to Canadian television. He talked about the Russian offensive and Nuclear Sharing

– There is a great threat of a Russian offensive on the front against Ukraine in the near future. This offensive must be stopped at all costs, said President Andrzej Duda in an interview on Canadian television CTV News. The president was also asked about Poland's participation in the Nuclear Sharing initiative.

Andrzej Duda gave an interview to the Canadian television CTV News. The main topic of the conversation between the Polish president and journalist Vassy Kapelos was Russia's aggression against Ukraine and international security.

The president warns against Russia's offensive

The Polish president was primarily asked to comment on the United States' decision to provide military aid worth $61 billion to Ukraine.

– There is a great threat of a Russian offensive on the front against Ukraine in the near future. This offensive must be stopped at all costs, because, as I have been repeating and repeating to everyone, especially recently to American politicians, we must stop Russian imperialism. Russian imperialism cannot win. Because if Russian imperialism wins in Ukraine, it will move on because it is unsatisfied. It will devour other countries and nations, Duda said.

The president expanded on the idea of a possible Russian offensive. – The most important thing is that before the start of the summer season, when the ground dries out and it will be possible to conduct actual offensive operations with heavy equipment, Ukraine will receive support and be able to defend itself against further Russian attacks. This is of fundamental importance today. Therefore, any help is extremely valuable, he emphasized.

The host of the interview, Vassy Kapelos, noted that after meeting with Duda, Donald Trump changed the narrative regarding Ukraine. – Do you think his views could have changed – is that possible? – the journalist asked the Polish president.

– I am convinced that President Donald Trump has seen the situation this way all along. That it is indeed in the strategic interest of the United States that Ukraine defends itself against Russian aggression. I have no particular doubts about this, Duda said. – However, I actually said what I generally say to all American politicians: that today, Ukrainians, defending their homeland, if they receive support, can stop Russian imperialism and can stop a potential war. If they are not helped, if they do not receive this support, a disaster may happen. Russia, going further in its imperial ambitions, will attack other countries. And then American military intervention will be necessary, he added.

Duda on nuclear weapons in Poland: There are no decisions on this matter

Duda was also asked about Poland's participation in the Nuclear Sharing initiative, which the Polish president has recently spoken about many times publicly.

– We have been repeating for a very long time, for many years, that if the allies decide to expand the Nuclear Sharing program to include Poland within the North Atlantic Alliance, we are ready for it – assured the Polish president. – We are ready to become part of the Nuclear Sharing program, as part of NATO cooperation, as part of cooperation with our allies, because we see that Russia has become dangerous again, that Russia is relocating its nuclear weapons westward – to Belarus, to the Królewiec district. And it is not that the West is provoking Russia, that NATO is provoking Russia. It's the other way around: it is Russia that provokes the West, and it is Russia that has been militarizing for years – both the Königsberg district and Belarus. And what NATO is doing today and what we propose that NATO should do is only a response to Russia's offensive policy, the brutality of which can be seen today in Ukraine, he added.

The interviewer asked whether this initiative was imminent.

– We simply raise this topic in talks with our allies. There are no decisions on this matter that have been made anywhere. I want to absolutely deny all claims that any decisions have been made in this regard. I did not participate in making any such decisions and I do not know anything about such decisions. So I can responsibly say: there are no such decisions, Duda said. – But we declare our readiness. And just as we talk about the need to increase defense spending and, therefore, strengthen the defense potential of the North Atlantic Alliance countries and their readiness – we also talk about this. Because if Russia relocates its nuclear weapons, NATO should respond to it, he said.
