The Polish athlete is concerned about her shape. “It doesn't look like I'm going to fight for medals”
Sofia Ennaoui has been a well-known Polish athlete for years. Although the runner brought back medals from the last European Championships, she has concerns about the upcoming tournament in Rome.
Polish athletes are preparing for the most important event of the year – the Olympic Games. Probably the biggest test for some of them will be the European Championships in Rome scheduled for June 7-12. For many years, the White and Reds have been bringing home many medals from this championship.
Sofia Ennaoui with concerns about the result in Rome
Sofia Ennaoui can fondly remember the last two editions of the European Athletics Championships. The Pole stood on the podium, which theoretically should be a good motivation to fight for another album in the coming days. This year, however, the form of the 1500-meter athlete is far from expected.
During her first start this season at the crown distance, Ennaoui took tenth place (4:04.15 s). For now, her form is not yet at the expected level. The Pole is well aware of this, which is why she has concerns about her fitness just before the competition in the capital of Rome.
– In Ostrava, I was running behind the European leaders. At the moment, it doesn't look like I'm going to fight for medals in the European Championships, although I'm not giving up on myself. However, I have often shown that I can prepare the best disposition in these most important moments. So I try to stay positive. We'll see how I look in the qualifying rounds, Ennaoui told Interia.
Sofia Ennaoui is fighting to go to the Olympic Games
Sofia Ennaoui has not qualified for the Olympics so far. Good starts in Rome may move her up the rankings, which also determines tickets to Paris.
The runner, born in 1995, has won silver and bronze medals in the European Championships and the European Indoor Championships. In last year's world championships, the Pole was eliminated in the qualifying round.
