The head of Ryanair got a cake in the face. “This is the warmest welcome I have ever received in Belgium”

The head of Ryanair was attacked with a cake just before a press conference during which he wanted to announce the details of the petition to the head of the European Commission. Michael O’Leary didn’t care about the whole situation. – I like cream cake, it’s my favorite – he joked.

Michael O’Leary appeared in Brussels, where he was to meet journalists in front of one of the European Commission buildings. The head of Ryanair appeared there with a cardboard image of the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. As O’Leary was preparing for a press conference, two women ran up to him. One of them hit the head of a low-cost airline in the face with a cake. After a while, the other one tried to do the same, but O’Leary tried to avoid it and got hit in the back of the head.

“Welcome to Belgium,” one of the women said. – Stop polluting your f***ing planes – added the second one. The head of Ryanair approached the whole situation with some distance, emphasizing that “this is the warmest welcome he has ever received in Belgium,” The Sun reported. O’Leary then took off his jacket and gave it to his assistant to clean, before drying himself off with a handkerchief.

– I like cream cake, it’s my favorite – said the head of a low-cost airline. In the context of the attack, O’Leary joked that “it was fake soy cream.” He added that a “dairy-based Irish cream” would be better. Despite the incident, the head of Ryanair decided to say why he appeared in Brussels.

O’Leary among others announced his company’s new flight schedule and delivered a petition with 1.5 million signatures to the head of the European Commission. These are the regulations regarding the so-called protection of flights over Europe. Current European Union rules virtually prohibit airlines from flying over countries where local air traffic control staff are on strike.

Ryanair itself also referred to the cake situation. “A warm welcome to Brussels on the occasion of seven new routes for winter 2023. Passengers are so happy with our routes and petitions that they celebrate with a cake. We have deliciously low prices”, “Instead of buying cream cakes, you could buy a flight from Belgium for the same price”, “Michael O’Leary slipped past security to deliver 1.5 million signatures to Ursula von der Leyen” – joked in the series posts on social media.
