To care for your intestines, avoid highly processed foods

Dietitian Michał Wrzosek, in a video published on his Instagram, listed three things that “destroy” the intestines. The first is highly processed food because it contains large amounts of sugar, saturated fatty acids and little fiber. “Such products increase the number of unfavorable bacteria and reduce the number of beneficial ones, which may result in defecation disorders” – he adds.

Additionally, remember that it contains many flavor and aroma enhancers and enhancers. Such food is not good for our figure or our health. Therefore, it is worth taking a moment to read the composition of the product and choose those that are as minimally processed as possible. Especially avoid those that contain glucose-fructose syrup and trasn fats (hydrogenated). However, the current pace of life means that we often eat in a hurry, choosing this type of food. However, it also promotes obesity, hypertension and dementia. Moreover, highly processed food can accelerate the biological aging of the body.

How do medications affect gut health?

The dietitian mentions medications as the second factor that harms our intestines. However, he emphasizes that antibiotics should be taken according to the doctor's recommendations, and not when we think it is necessary. Overuse of medications can lead to ulcers in the digestive system and damage to the mucous membrane.

Due to the fact that overuse of antibiotics can be harmful, after completing treatment, under no circumstances should you take any medicines that are left in your home medicine cabinet without first consulting your doctor. Too frequent use of antibiotics may contribute to the destruction of beneficial bacteria in the intestines, which may result in serious digestion and absorption disorders of nutrients.

Alcohol is also an enemy of our intestines

The specialist mentions alcohol as the third “enemy” of our intestines. It contributes to the growth of unfavorable bacteria in the intestines, increases the risk of cancer in the intestinal area and, as a dietitian says: “every dose is poison.”
