The candidate for mayor of Brzeziny filed an election protest. Will there be a third round?
Daniel Szymczak, one of the candidates for mayor of Brzeziny, filed an election protest. In his opinion, the commission made a mistake when counting the votes cast in the first round. – Czech mistake, we are not accusing anyone. We want to find out what really happened, he said.
On Sunday, April 21, the second round of local elections will be held, during which the next commune heads, mayors and city presidents will be elected. Or at least that's how it should be. The election of the mayor of Brzeziny arouses great emotions. Dariusz Guzek and the current mayor Ilona Skipor will face each other in the second round.
According to Polsat News, the result may be questioned, however, because one of the candidates – Daniel Szymczak – notified the District Electoral Commission and filed an election protest. The suspicion that there may have been an error in the form returned by the electoral commission appeared quite quickly after the first round of voting. Daniel Szymczak's shop steward gave him different data than what was ultimately included in the announcement.
Elections for the mayor of Brzeziny. Will there be a third round?
– We reported an error when entering the number of votes in the minutes, the error weakened me by subtracting 100 votes from the minutes – he reported in an interview with Polsat News. – The commission itself admitted to this mistake, but at some stage they made a mistake and entered the number of votes incorrectly – instead of 233 it was 133, adding votes to a rival candidate with the same name – he added. Ultimately, Daniel Szymczak was a few votes short of getting into the second round, so – if there was indeed a mistake – the outcome of the elections could have turned out differently.
– Czech mistake, we are not accusing anyone. We want to find out what really happened and we want the second round to take place between correctly selected candidates. I hope I will win these elections, said Daniel Szymczak. It is known that the case will be heard by the District Court in Łódź. The ruling will appear after the vote, so it is possible that the residents of Brzeziny will go to the polls for the third time.
