Shannen Doherty reveals: On the day of my brain surgery, I found out about my husband’s infidelities

In April 2023, unexpectedly, actress Shannen Doherty decided to break up with her third husband Kurt Iswarienko, a celebrity photographer and film producer. They had been together since 2008 and got married in 2011. In the divorce petition, the couple cited “irreconcilable differences.”

When Doherty decided to leave her husband, she was just before surgery to remove a brain tumor and right after announcing that the cancer she had been fighting since 2015 had returned and was in stage four. Now the actress has made it clear and revealed why she decided to take this difficult step.

Shannen Doherty opened up about her divorce in the inaugural episode of her new podcast, Let’s Be Clear.

– I went for surgery (removal of a brain tumor – ed.) early in the morning, right after I found out that my marriage was basically over because my husband had an affair for two years – she said. She added that Isvarienka wanted to go to the hospital with her, but she did not let him. – I felt so betrayed, completely unloved by the person I had been with for 14 years, the person I loved with all my heart – she confessed, adding that she had the support of her mother, brother and friends. “I was going through this and wondering if I was going to get a fucking divorce and I was trying to find the truth about it,” she explained.

Delving into her husband’s alleged affair, Doherty said she was “obsessed” with finding out the truth about his infidelity and was waiting for someone “to be honest with her.”

– If you spend 14 years with someone and you have cheated on them, doesn’t they deserve the absolute truth, no matter how much it hurts them? I talked to the girl with whom he had been cheating on me for two years, admitted the actress. – It was embarrassing. I was terrified by the fact that I couldn’t maintain a relationship (…) I failed to get married three times, she said, adding that she still believed in love.

Doherty emphasized on her podcast that she does not take responsibility for the breakdown of her marriage, but does take responsibility for some issues in her relationship with Iswarienko. “I take responsibility not only for how I felt, but also for how cancer affected my marriage and how it affected it the second time around,” she explained.

Doherty: I hope to meet a new love soon

The 52-year-old actress also shared that despite her husband’s infidelity, she could not “immediately” break off contact with him. “I was very confused, and I was also on steroids and a lot of other drugs after brain surgery because they didn’t want my brain to swell,” she continued, before adding that she was still struggling with their breakup. – And honestly, it’s still really hard. Yes, I made the decision to file for divorce, but I have many memories with this person, she admitted.

Doherty, who was previously married to Ashley Hamilton (1993-1994) and Rick Salomon from 2002-2003, said she hopes to meet someone “soon.” “I don’t think I’ll be single forever,” Doherty said. “I have to really love myself and deal with the past before I can move forward, but now I’m pretty sure I’ll meet someone – hopefully soon,” she added.
