One fact about Iga Świątek’s matches is surprising. A real demolition
Iga Świątek is already in the third round of Wimbledon, which means she has extended her great winning streak. One statistic shows the advantage she has gained over her rivals.
Iga Świątek became the leader of the WTA ranking for the first time on April 4, 2022. Since then, she has fallen from the top only for a few weeks, when she was replaced in this place by Aryna Sabalenka. Another season, we are already delighted with the great balance of our tennis player’s matches. This year, she has already played 51 matches, of which she won as many as 47. One thing attracts attention in the Polish player’s last series.
Świątek practically never loses a set
On Thursday, Świątek registered for the third round of Wimbledon, defeating Petra Martić 6:4, 6:3. This gave her 21st consecutive victory on the women’s tour. Her last defeat was on April 20, when she lost to Jelena Rybakina in the semifinals of the WTA 500 event in Stuttgart. Later came the great triumphs. Raszynianka proved to be the best in tournaments in Madrid and Rome, and then also at the Grand Slam event in Paris.
What makes Świątek’s recent series special? The Pole has not actually lost a set to her opponents. In the past 21 matches, only three opponents have been able to win a set.
During the event in Madrid, Beatriz Haddad Maia and Aryna Sabalenka did it. Later in Rome, the Pole triumphed in the entire event without losing a game, and then during Roland Garros she encountered the greatest difficulty in the competition with Naomi Osaka. The Japanese won the set, and in the decisive part she was close to defeating our player and winning the duel. However, this did not happen.
Świątek delights with numbers
The Polish representative is therefore achieving numbers unattainable for other tennis players. In fact, for the third season in a row she is playing with a cosmic percentage of wins and is able to create long series of won matches. This current one is the longest in her career, but very effective, considering that her opponents are rarely able to win a set.
