The holidays are over, it’s time to sum up. How many people used PKP services and went on a train trip this holiday season? It turns out that this is a record number. One route was particularly popular.
From the beginning of June to the end of August 2023, over 20 million travelers used the services of the PKP carrier. This is 1.8 million more than during last year’s summer season and 7.9 million more than two years ago. This is how the brand broke another record.

In June, 6.2 million passengers traveled on board PKP Intercity trains, and in July – 7 million. In August, even more people used the carrier’s services – 7.1 million. Thus, August 2023 became the month with the highest attendance in the company’s history.
This year’s 20.3 million passengers is 10%. more than in the same period in 2022, when nearly 18.5 million people chose to travel with PKP Intercity. It is also a significant increase, as much as 44%, compared to the period June-August 2019 – i.e. compared to the last holidays before the pandemic. Back then, over 14.2 million passengers used the carrier’s services.
During the summer holidays, on average over 200,000 people traveled on board PKP Intercity trains per day. people. Record interest occurred around long weekends. First, the carrier broke the daily record on June 11, when it transported 250,000. passengers. However, on August 11, PKP Intercity boasted an even higher result. On that day, 254,000 people traveled on its trains. people.
Which PKP route was the most popular?
In this respect, the same episode has been number one for several years. We are talking about travel between Warsaw and Tricity. Firstly, many people went to the seaside this way, and secondly, the largest music festival – Open’er Festival – is organized in the Tricity, which takes place in Gdynia. It is estimated that over 110,000 people took part in this year’s edition. people.
On average, 430 trains hit the tracks every day during the holidays. Moreover, during large cultural events, PKP Intercity launched additional trains. From June to the end of August, the carrier reinforced approximately 1,250 trains with an additional 1,750 wagons. Most places on trains have been prepared on routes between the largest agglomerations and to the largest tourist centers such as Tricity, Olsztyn, Ustka, Kołobrzeg and Świnoujście. The connection network includes 413 towns and 463 commercial points.
