Already at the beginning of the WTA tournament in Montreal, the weather played a trick on the organizers. In Magda Linette’s match with Wiktoria Azarenka, the match was interrupted twice because of rainfall. Unfortunately, this state of affairs did not positively affect the game of the Polish woman, who was helpless.
The WTA in Montreal is the first tournament played by Magda Linette after the injury. After Wimbledon, the Poznań player took a short break to regenerate and return to full strength. The Polish woman even missed the BNP Paribas Warsaw Open, where fans could watch even the best tennis player in the world – Iga Świątek.
Magda Linette and Wiktoria Azarenka fought not only with each other
Unfortunately, fate was not happy for the Australian Open semi-finalist, because she had to face Victoria Azarenka in the first round. It is true that she already defeated her once this year, but repeating it was a very difficult task, especially after the injury.
The players took to the court on Monday, August 7, and from the beginning they fought not only with each other, but also with the weather. First, with the score 2: 1 for Azarenka, it started to rain, so the tennis players had to leave the court for about two hours. When they returned, the Belarusian maintained the advantage and won 6:3.
WTA Montreal: After resuming the game, the Polish woman was helpless
Before the start of the second set, it began to rain again, which forced both players to take a forced break. Eventually, the match was restarted after more than two hours. Unfortunately, this situation had some influence on Magda Linette’s attitude later in the meeting.
In the game of the Poznań player, something seemed to get stuck and … she was unable to win any game. Since then, the Polish woman has not managed to win any game. Unfortunately, Linette got a bagel 0:6, and in the whole match she fell 0:2 and said goodbye to the tournament.
In WTA Montreal, Iga Świątek has not started her struggles yet, and she will be on the court only from the second round. There she will meet Czech Karolina Pliskova, who defeated China’s Lin Zhu 6-3, 6-7 (8-10), 6-2 on Monday.
