Iga Świątek delays her arrival to Poland. We know the reason
Iga Świątek could start her Christmas break earlier after her defeat against Ekaterina Aleksandrova. Despite this, she did not return to the country with her staff. We know the reason for this decision.
In Miami, Iga Świątek had problems with playing at the level to which she and the fans had become accustomed. The Polish representative lost badly in the fourth round of the competition in Florida against Ekaterina Aleksandrova. For the first time in her career, the Russian won against the leader of the world ranking. As it turns out, the defeat could have had a significant impact on the Polish woman's calendar before Easter.
Iga Świątek stayed in the USA
The best tennis player in the world lost to the Russian 4:6, 2:6, having previously had a difficult match with Linda Noskova. Although a defeat at an earlier stage means more free time, Świątek decided to spend part of it in the United States. According to Canal+ Sport journalist Bartosz Ignacik, the player's team, consisting of Maciej Ryszczuk, Tomasz Wiktorowski and Tomasz Moczek, returned to the country. However, Świątek herself and her psychologist Daria Abramowicz were missing.
The reason lies in the mental sphere. As Ignacik said, Świątek and Abramowicz want to regenerate mentally and physically after a demanding period in the United States. The stay will not last too long, as the tennis player is to spend Christmas in Poland. After a few days, she will start training and taking part in more competitions. One of them will be the Billie Jean King Cup in Biel, Switzerland. The Polish national team will face the hosts there. Świątek must be present at the start (theoretically she may not play), otherwise she will not be allowed to take part in the Olympic Games.
The regulations of the tennis tournament in Paris, in addition to a high position in the ranking, also assume participation in one representative competition in 2023-2024. Świątek didn't attend any last year, so she has to be present now.
Title fight in Miami
Iga Świątek won the tournament in Indian Wells, and in Miami she first defeated Camila Giorgi and then Linda Noskova. The Polish conqueror, Ekaterina Aleksandrova, defeated Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals and will face Danielle Collins in the semifinals.
