The president's decision on the budget tomorrow? "There are doubts"

President Andrzej Duda gives himself until tomorrow to decide on the state budget, RMF FM reported. The presidential minister indicates the reasons for which the president may refer the budget to the Constitutional Tribunal.

According to information from RMF FM, President Andrzej Duda gives himself until Thursday to decide on the state budget. The station’s findings show that the president is seriously considering sending the budget to the Constitutional Tribunal.

Country budget. What will the president do?

If this happens, the Tribunal will have two months to deal with the budget law. However, it cannot be ruled out that the Constitutional Tribunal will deal with the budget even longer, because there is no penalty for a delay. The problem, however, is that during this time raises for public sector employees and teachers will be blocked. Moreover, without publication it will be impossible to amend the budget. Let us remind you that the current team adopted – with minor changes – the budget inherited from its predecessors. In order to implement pre-election promises, the budget would have to be amended, and without publishing the current document, this will not be possible.

The president is aware that he may face anger for blocking the above-mentioned increases. On the other hand, Andrzej Duda is looking for an idea for retaliation for taking away influence in the public media, the prosecutor’s office and the case of Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik.

The absence of former ministers in the Sejm would justify a possible decision to refer the budget to the Constitutional Tribunal. This is indicated by the presidential minister Małgorzata Paprocka.

– There are doubts about the composition of the Sejm. The idea is to prevent MPs Kamiński and Wąsik from attending the meeting. Lawyers’ opinions are divided. The legal and factual situation related to pardons and regulations relating to the exercise of the mandate of an MP is quite complicated. The president will take these factors into account – Paprocka said in an interview with Polsat News.

When asked whether we can expect the president’s decision on the budget bill today, Paprocka replied: – Probably. There is a constitutional deadline until tomorrow. It’s a matter of the next few hours.
