If these changes come into effect, you will receive a much higher pension. The government must deliver on its promise

ZUS issued an important announcement for retirees. The case concerns 8 million Poles

The government plans to double the tax-free amount to PLN 60,000, which could significantly improve the financial situation of millions of Polish retirees.

The government is considering significant changes to the tax system that could significantly affect the financial situation of millions of Polish retirees. The proposal, although not yet implemented, involves doubling the income tax-free amount, which would mean significant benefits for those receiving retirement benefits.

Tax-free amount up to PLN 60,000?

Currently, the tax-free amount is PLN 30,000 per year. According to plans presented by the Deputy Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy, Dr. Sebastian Gajewski, this amount could be increased to PLN 60,000 per year. Such a change would mean that pensioners receiving monthly benefits of up to PLN 5,000 would be completely exempt from income tax.

For retirees, especially those with lower benefits, doubling the tax-free amount would mean a significant increase in net monthly income. People receiving the lowest pensions are already exempt from income tax thanks to the previous government’s earlier increase in the tax-free amount to PLN 30,000.

However, the introduction of the proposed change would have serious consequences for public finances. It is estimated that the public sector could lose around PLN 52.5 billion in revenues from the personal income tax. For this reason, a decision on this matter will be made only after a thorough audit of the state of public finances.

Promise of the Tusk government

This proposal is in line with one of the Civic Coalition’s election promises, included in the program “100 specifics for the first 100 days”. Although this promise has not yet been fulfilled, the government shows interest in its implementation, which could have a significant impact on improving the financial situation of pensioners.

Due to the potential financial impact, any changes will be preceded by broad public consultations. This is important because the impact of this decision goes beyond retirees, also affecting the budgets of local government units.

Deputy Minister Gajewski stressed that the priority is to maintain the stability of public finances, which is crucial for the proper functioning of the economy and the socio-economic security of citizens.
