Surprise near Warsaw.  The mayor says goodbye to his position after a quarter of a century!

By decision of the voters, Maria Jolanta Batycka-Wąsik will not hold the position of mayor of the Lesznowola commune for another term. The first round was enough to decide.

On Sunday, April 7, local government elections were held in Poland. Polling stations closed at 9:00 p.m. and from then on the commission members started counting the votes. As it turned out, in some places the voting results resulted in smaller or larger sensations, and a good example in this context is the commune of Lesznowola.

Maria Jolanta Batycka-Wąsik (Electoral Committee of Voters of Maria Jolanta Batycka-Wąsik), Marta Natalia Maciejak (Electoral Committee of Voters of the Lesznowola Commune Initiative) and Bartłomiej Ludwik Soszyński (Electoral Committee of Law and Justice) took part in the mayor elections. After counting the votes, 100 percent circuits, it became clear that the first round was enough to decide.

Maciejak won 54.96 percent. votes and she will replace Batycka-Wąsik (34.10%) in the position. As money.pl reminds, Maria Jolanta Batycka-Wąsik has been the mayor of the Lesznowola commune since 1998.

Revolution in Gdynia! Wojciech Szczurek: I accept it with humility

This is not the only situation of this type, and a revolution also occurred in Gdynia. Wojciech Szczurek, who had held the position of mayor of the city since 1998, did not make it to the second round of the elections. After counting all the votes, it is known that the following people will fight for the presidency on April 21: Aleksandra Monika Kosiorek (Electoral Committee of Gdynia Dialog Voters) and Tadeusz Szemiesz (Coalition Electoral Committee Civic Coalition).

Even before the final results, Wojciech Szczurek spoke out via social media. “According to unofficial results, there will be a second round of elections in Gdynia. Unfortunately, without me. I accept it with humility, I am grateful for every vote cast and I congratulate my opponents,” he wrote. “There will be time for summaries. One thing is certain: it has been an unforgettable 26 years and the greatest honor possible. Everything I did, I did with you in mind – the people of Gdynia. Thank you. I love Gdynia,” the politician emphasized.
