Future Minister of Development: Electricity prices cannot be frozen until the end of the world

It is impossible to freeze electricity prices until the end of the world and one day longer. We need to make prices acceptable and bills start to fall, said Krzysztof Hetman, PSL MP, the likely future minister of development and technology, on Radio Zet.

Krzysztof Hetman, MP of the Polish People’s Party, was a guest of Radio Zet today. The politician will probably take over the position of Minister of Development and Technology next week. – I do not deny that such a possibility is possible – said the People’s Party MP when asked whether he would become the head of this ministry.

The future minister of development on electricity prices

The interview featured, among others: topic of freezing electricity prices. Today, the Sejm will hold the second reading of the draft amendment to the laws to support consumers of electricity, gas fuels and heat. It assumes the freezing of energy prices for the period from January 1, 2024 to June 30, 2024. Hetman was asked why electricity prices will be frozen only for half a year.

– Each time it was for half a year. We will see what will happen on the market. This is a critical moment – said the PSL MP in the “Guest of Radio Zet” program.

Hetman emphasized that the freezing of prices will also apply to entrepreneurs, including farm owners and producers. The guest of the program informed that yesterday an amendment on this matter was submitted by MP Jacek Tomczak and it was consulted with coalition partners.

– We want to show Poles a perspective on how we can reduce our (electricity) bills. This is not just a matter of freezing prices. It is impossible to freeze these prices until the end of time or one day longer. We need to make prices acceptable and bills start to fall, said the People’s Party MP.

Later in the broadcast, Hetman explained that the state budget must add approximately PLN 15 billion to freeze electricity prices for six months. However, he assured that “our bills will be at the level we have today.”
