Dr. Gałązka-Sobotka: Neglects in health care will push us into civilization regression
I try to be a diplomat in my everyday work and represent the patient’s interests. We realize how important health is in our lives when it is taken away from us. Then we think about what we could do differently. Then we also see how much needs to change in the health care system to be able to get the help we so desperately need, says Małgorzata Gałązka-Sobotka, Ph.D., awarded the title of Health Ambassador by Wprost.
Małgorzata Gałązka-Sobotka, Ph.D., is the director of the Institute of Health Protection and dean of the Postgraduate Education Center of Lazarski University. He has been involved in discussions on the shape of changes in health care for years. – I hope that we will be able to create a country that will appreciate health as a factor without which we will not be able to develop effectively. Any failure to skillfully protect health and give a chance to regain it will push us into civilizational regression, she said after receiving the award.
She also emphasized that a lot needs to be changed in the health care system. – Today we are at a unique moment: changes in the parliament and the government. New hopes are being born that perhaps we will be able to do something more, faster and more effectively, she emphasized.
Today, the number 1 challenge is measuring the effectiveness of changes. – Politicians rarely want to use this parameter, because it is easier to say that we have more money, equipment, and have provided more services. However, the effectiveness of the health care system can be determined by health effects. The effectiveness of the health care system should be measured by the clinical effectiveness of the actions taken, as well as by asking the patient how he went along this path, to what extent his path to health or to stabilizing his health was traumatic, and to what extent it gave hope. Research shows that through kindness, empathy and communication alone we are able to significantly improve treatment results, said Dr. Gałązka-Sobotka.
She also emphasized that it is necessary to talk about the humanization of medicine, because it is based on the human-human relationship: the most important role in the treatment of the body and soul is the human-human relationship.
