On Sunday, November 17, random walkers found a dead bison. The animal had its head cut off and was most likely killed by a human. Therefore, a police investigation was started. RMF FM reports on the matter.

Bisons are a rare sight in this part of Poland. These majestic animals do not usually venture into the western regions of our country. The killed bison is most likely the same animal that has been appearing in the Lębork and Bytów counties for several weeks. The European bison is a species at risk of extinction, which is why it is subject to strict species protection in Poland.

Officers from the region began an investigation into the murdered individual. – The police secured the scene, examined it and interviewed witnesses. The officers found bullet holes in the bison’s carcass. Both the head and carcass of the animal were secured for further examination, said Monika Sadurska, spokeswoman for the Słupsk police, in an interview with RMF FM.

First, investigators intend to check whether hunting was taking place in the area during the incident. If so, the police will secure documentation of these events and interview further witnesses. RMF FM reporters unofficially reveal that the killed animal had at least two gunshot wounds. However, the weapon is unknown, and it is also unknown whether the bison’s head was cut off after or before the creature’s death.
