The location of the first nuclear power plant is finally certain. A key application has been submitted
The construction of the first Polish nuclear power plant is getting closer. The special purpose vehicle submitted an application to determine the final location of the investment.
On August 22, Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe submitted an application to the Pomeranian Voivode for a decision to determine the location of the first Polish nuclear power plant – informed the government plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure, Anna Łukaszewska-Trzeciakowska.
The first nuclear power plant in the Choczewo commune
The location of the first Polish nuclear power plant has been talked about for over a decade, when the idea of possibly building this type of power plant was revived. However, nothing happened on this matter for years. Even then, the most likely place was the Choczewo commune in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. It is about the location of Lubiatowo-Kopalino.
“The decision on determining the location of the investment in the construction of a nuclear energy facility, for the project involving the construction and operation of the first nuclear power plant in Poland with an electrical capacity of up to 3,750 MWe, in the Choczewo commune, will be issued on the basis of the Act of June 29, 2011. on the preparation and implementation of investments in nuclear energy facilities and accompanying investments. It will provide PEJ with the right to the land necessary to build the investment both on land and at sea. It will also specify the properties that will be covered by the investment, as well as specify the conditions for the implementation of the investment, including technical, environmental, conservation and fire protection conditions,” we read in the press release.
– The application for a decision to determine the location of the investment submitted today is a key milestone in the activities of Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe in obtaining all administrative consents needed to start the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Poland. The Polish government is responsibly rebuilding its energy mix and system, while strengthening the country’s energy security – commented the government plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure, Anna Łukaszewska-Trzeciakowska.
One of the last steps to start construction
PEJ, as a special purpose vehicle established to coordinate the construction process of the first large-scale nuclear power plant in the country, is responsible for the efficient and timely implementation of the investment. This involves obtaining many administrative consents required by law, allowing, among others: on access to the property and the construction of the project itself.
So far, Polish Nuclear Power Plants have already obtained, among others: a basic decision issued by the Ministry of Climate and Environment confirming that the company’s investment is consistent with the state’s energy policy, as well as a general opinion confirming the correctness of the scope of verification of safety analyzes provided by the National Atomic Energy Agency. The environmental procedure aimed at obtaining a decision on environmental conditions is also at a very advanced stage, as indicated in the material.
“As part of the Polish Nuclear Energy Program, it is planned to build two nuclear power plants – the power plant in Pomerania is the first of them. As a direct response to the need to increase the country’s energy security and meet future demand for electricity, the investment is one of the most important projects implemented in Poland in recent decades,” it was also recalled.
