Zakopane will be impassable. The City Hall appeals to tourists

Zakopane

On August 8, the fifth stage of Tour de Pologne will pass through Zakopane. The city hall warns residents and tourists.

If we are going to Zakopane for the weekend today, after arriving at the place we can be surprised. On August 8, the fifth stage of the Tour de Pologne race will pass through the capital of the Polish Tatra Mountains. In connection with the organization of a sports event, some of the city streets will be impassable. The City Hall is advising to avoid driving on this day. Unfortunately, public transport courses will also change. “Players to Zakopane will leave Katowice and reach the Tatra Mountains around 16.00” – informs Wyborcza.

Zakopane not for drivers

On Friday, the riders will move from Krakow towards Wielka Krokiew. At the Tatra Mountains, athletes are to be around 4pm. Their passage through the streets of Zakopane will make the city’s most important points out of service. Among the streets passed on the route is, among others Krzeptówki, Skibówka, Kościeliska, Grunwaldzka, Makuszyński and Piłsudski. There from 15.30 to 18.00 the movement will be completely suspended. “Difficulties will definitely be, but we want to limit them to one afternoon,” says the mayor of Zakopane Łukasz Filipowicz quoted by Gazeta Wyborcza. He also advises residents and tourists to leave their cars in organized, additional parking lots.

Changes in public transport

Unfortunately, an alternative to cars, which is public transport, will not work properly either. Some lines will be shortened and some stops will be turned off from the service. Changes will include courses with numbers 11 and 21 and stops in the area of the ski jump at Piłsudskiego Street. “Lines 14, 19 and 23 are to run unchanged,” we read.

In addition, buffer parking lots will be available in the city (including the rafters) – to receive an entrance card and use them, however, you must send a notification with the vehicle’s registration number to Zakopane@Zakopane. “The city authorities also encourage you to use the park & ride car park at the PKP station – cost PLN 12 per night with a free public transport ticket,” informs Wyborcza.
