Zakopane cannot cope with this problem. “A Cause for Shame”

Krupówki

Tourists visiting Zakopane know the problem of being “rigged” for various services all too well. The interventions of the city guard do not help to solve it.

A recording of a man in a Santa Claus costume on Krupówki, who was allegedly shouting and demanding money from tourists, recently caused a lot of outrage. It was no different when, at the beginning of the year, a cunning “teddy bear” demanded payment from Hanna Turnau from “M jak miłość”, just for recording himself in the area with his phone, for his own use. Moreover, the situation could lead to image loss. Another man dressed as a teddy bear worked in the upper part of Krupówki and had the appropriate permit. According to media reports, the teddy bear and Santa Claus are the same person. “The famous Teddy Bear has changed his industry”; “they spoil the image of Santa Claus,” commented the commentators.

There are more tourist traps on this famous street. It is no different with the Roma from Slovakia, who play and sing for money. In this case, we are talking about a rather burdensome custom that those who work and live near Krupówki are fed up with. The City Guard issues tickets, and the problem returns as soon as the famous Zakopane promenade becomes crowded.

The problem of Krupówki is back. Unfair tricks and making money off tourists

Tymoteusz Mróz, a city councilor from Zakopane, told the local portal Nasza Miasto that these situations are a cause for shame, and the authorities cannot cope with the practice, although the so-called regulations apply on Krupówki. cultural park.

“There is also a cultural park in Krakow and there are no such stories there. There are no Romani bands. So there are tools to enforce the law so that it is not the wild west. The new mayor announced order at Krupówki and we will expect him to keep his word,” he said.

In the case of the recording of a man in a Santa Claus costume, the City Guard took no further action.

“We analyzed this recording and it does not show what this lady is accusing these men of,” said Leszek Golonka, commander of the City Guard. “It is clear that the gentlemen are trying to leave,” he added. He also admitted that the man visible in the recording… had received fines before and paid them.

Tourist towns and crowded promenades inevitably attract people who want to earn money in an unfair way. You should also watch out for cunning practices in European cities, e.g. Rome and Florence. A well-known fraud is, among others: demanding payment for a rose dropped on the ground, which someone wants to give back to the seller.

When going to Krupówki and other crowded places, it is worth being vigilant and not paying for the service if we are misled.
