The 54-year-old from Siedlce wanted to buy a flat in Albania. To this end, he contacted local real estate agencies. A Pole wanted an apartment in Tirana. He came across a fraudster
The Pole contacted the author of the recordings and arranged a meeting in Albania. Together they viewed several properties and signed a power of attorney for the purchase of the property at a local notary. The document was written in English and Albanian. The 54-year-old also gave 1,960 euros as a down payment for the purchase of the apartment.
Commissioner Ewelina Radomyska from the Siedlce police reported further that the Pole returned to the country, and his Albanian assistant communicated with him via an internet chat application. After some time, he recorded a film inside one of the apartments and sent an offer for 49 thousand euros. He emphasized that the price was attractive because the owner was in a hurry to sell.
Pole defrauded in Albania of PLN 200,000
The Siedlce resident transferred the agreed amount to the broker’s account. A moment later, however, he began to have doubts when the broker told him that the money had not yet been transferred. So he blocked the funds. Only after persuasion did the 54-year-old remove the block and agree that the broker would return the money to him himself, and the Pole would complete the purchase of the apartment for cash.
The men arranged to meet on September 16 at a bank branch in Warsaw. Of course, the broker never showed up at the given time and place. There was no further contact with him. Both the messenger and the phone were silent.
