You will pay for a sunbed and umbrella in the machine. New rules in a European country

Holidays in the Canary Islands will no longer be the same as before. Special vending machines appeared on some beaches.
Gran Canaria introduces a new payment method for sunbeds and umbrellas on some beaches. From Friday, tourists can test special vending machines, which look like parking meters well known to drivers. It is here, and not with the local seller, that you will have to settle the amount due for the available accessories. The system is currently in force on the beaches of El Perchel and Playa de Mogán, but in the future it can also be introduced in other places.
New payment system on the beaches of Gran Canaria
For several days on two Canary beaches, El Perchel and Playa de Mogán, a new payment system for sunbeds and umbrellas is available. This is just the beginning of the changes, which in the future are to cover the next parts of the Gran Canaria coast. Thanks to the service, sunbathers can pay for their stay at any time of the day, both with cash and payment cards. “Users simply choose the needed service, pay the right amount and receive a printed ticket that they must keep during their stay,” explains Canarian Weekly. Thus, the beach novelty in its operation resembles parking meters present in the streets of cities for years.
“Until now, the payment was only available by a service card due to security concerns. Many sunbathers asked for the possibility of paying cash, so we decided to install payment machines” – explains councilman Willy García.
Here you need to book
The Spanish island is not the only place where tourists have to get used to the new rules on the beach. This year, important changes will also take place in Italy, but they concern completely different issues. From this summer before visiting the SPAGGIA di Tuerredd beach in Sardinia, guests will have to book their place, paying a fee in a special application.
This solution can also be introduced in other popular locations fighting the problem of excessive tourism. Payments for sunbeds or umbrellas will not be the only fees that travelers will be able to expect in connection with the rest of the seaside.
