You no longer have to buy tickets. Free communication was introduced in the Polish city

Otwock

Another Polish city introduces free public transport. Four free lines will be available to residents.

In some cities in Poland you can ride public transport for free. This solution has already introduced, among others Wałcz and Mińsk Mazowiecki, and from January 1, 2026, tickets will not apply in Gorzów Wielkopolski. Now Otwock joins this list. The city broke off a long agreement with the Warsaw ZTM, which, according to the city authorities, generated too high costs. “L20 and L22, L50 and L51 lines go down in history, they will be replaced by free A1, A2, K52 and W50 lines” – writes the Warsaw report.

Free public transport in Otwock

From August 1, 2025, public transport in Otwock and its surroundings changed. The city broke off cooperation with Warsaw, which until now served local public transport. Now the town of 50,000 located on the outskirts of the capital focuses on its own transport, which is cheaper, more convenient and most importantly for passengers-it does not require the use of tickets. “The cost of the so -called woofry kilometer is PLN 9.67, and ZTM pressed to raise the rate to PLN 12, and next year up to PLN 14. In addition, the city had too little influence on timetables, which was unfavorable for residents,” explains Karolina Wojnicz, head of the Environmental Protection Department in Otwock. Despite the introduction of free journeys, the local government will save up to PLN 500,000 a year.

Passengers can count on comfort

Although the operator has changed, which is currently PKS Grodzisk Mazowiecki, stops on the route will remain the same. However, the names of bus lines will be different – instead of existing vehicles with numbers L20 and L22, L50 and L51, on the boards located behind the glass, residents will see the markings A1, A2, K52 and W50. “These buses are unique – they commemorate important figures related to the region. They are comfortable and ecological” – emphasizes President Otwock Jarosław Margielski
