You can shop in these stores on August 15. The regulations are clear

August 15 is a public holiday because on this day we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (also called the Feast of Our Lady of the Herbs) and the Polish Army Day. Therefore, most stores will be closed tomorrow, which results from the Act on restriction of trade on Sundays and holidays and on certain other days, which has been in force in Poland since March 2018.

We will not do shopping, among others: in such popular chains as Lidl, Biedronka, Auchan, Kaufland, Netto, Aldi and Carrefour.

Where will you be able to shop tomorrow?

This does not mean that on August 15, Poles will not have the opportunity to stock up. Sales may be conducted by, among others: store owners in person, as well as selected establishments excluded from the ban.

You will be able to make purchases tomorrow, among others: in most Żabka chain stores, which is related to the fact that they operate in a franchise model and can be run by owners who personally serve customers. Opening hours may vary depending on location.

Small local shops can also be open, as long as the owner or his family sells.

On August 15, you will also be able to do shopping at gas stations, in outlets located at railway stations and airports, and in shops located in tourist towns.

In Poland, the trade ban – apart from most Sundays – covers a total of 14 public holidays a year. The next shopping Sunday will fall on August 30, the last Sunday of the summer holidays. We will have to wait until December for the next ones.

The penalty for violating the trade ban is from PLN 1,000 to even PLN 100,000. PLN fine, and in case of persistent violation of the regulations – penalty of restriction of liberty.
