Xi Jinping is moving for power over AI. A new global order is at stake
When China’s leader devotes a significant portion of his speech to artificial intelligence, security, technical standards and global AI governance principles, I would not treat it as just another conference declaration. This is a strategic message.
During the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, Xi Jinping presented China’s vision for global artificial intelligence governance. He talked about openness, cooperation, security, human control over AI, the need for regulation, early warning systems and the need to create common international standards. He also emphasized the role of the UN and the need to limit the global technological divide.
At first glance, this sounds very reasonable. And some of these demands are indeed true. The problem is that in geopolitics it is never enough to just listen to what the state says. You also need to analyze why he is saying this now and what interest he wants to achieve with it.
