Woman trapped in a train, stroller overturned. One step away from tragedy on Polish tracks
A woman getting off the train in Racławki experienced a nightmare. The driver slammed her in the door and moved away after she pulled the stroller with the baby onto the platform.
One would think that after the latest tragedy that occurred at Koleje Mazowieckie – when young Dominik was caught by a train and lost both legs – railway employees would become more sensitive to passenger safety. The situation that occurred on Friday, September 4 in the province. Pomeranian, is proof that in some places ignorance still prevails.
Dramatic moments in Racławki
As we have already mentioned, terrible moments took place in the Pomeranian village of Racławki. When the Arriva regional train stopped at the station, one of the women wanted to get off with a small child. First, she took the stroller onto the platform and then tried to go outside herself. She didn’t make it in time. The driver moved, slamming her with the door, and the stroller with the baby fell onto the edge of the platform.
The passenger was much luckier than the above-mentioned Dominik, because she stayed on board the train. The quick reaction of the passengers caused the driver to stop before he could accelerate. Both the woman and the child were unharmed. The situation caused considerable outrage, especially since a similar incident had already occurred at the beginning of this year. Additionally, this time it turned out that the man driving the train was drunk.
We know what happened to the train driver
While investigating the case, it turned out that the train driver was a 51-year-old resident of Chojnice and had approximately 0.5 per mille of alcohol in his body. During the interrogation, he allegedly explained that he drank alcohol in the morning, and since he was traveling by train after 3 p.m., he hoped that he had time to sober up. The man was detained and the carrier decided to end cooperation with him.
The police will carry out further activities to clarify the entire course of the case. Arriva apologized for the incident, announced an analysis of the situation and assured that it would ensure increased passenger safety.
“We are very sorry about the situation. We apologize to all the people affected. Such an event should not have happened and we treat it with the utmost seriousness,” said the company’s spokeswoman, Joanna Parzniewska-Marcinkowska, quoted by TVN24.
