Wojciech Szczęsny has scored again in FC Barcelona’s goal in recent weeks. It looks like the Polish goalkeeper will stay between the posts for a long time.
Let us recall that this summer, the Spanish champions brought home one of the greatest talents of recent years on the Iberian Peninsula, looking at the goalkeeper. We are talking about Joan Garcia, who has so far defended the colors of FC Barcelona’s local rival, Espanyol. However, the investment of EUR 25 million in the Spaniard was supposed to be a move that would close the talks about the number one position in the ranks of the Pride of Catalonia for years.

Garcia actually started the season as the number 1 in coach Hansi Flick’s team. The role of the one who got behind the talented Spaniard was taken over by Wojciech Szczęsny. The Pole joined Barca on an emergency basis during the 2024/25 season. As it turned out, the former Polish representative’s return from retirement was extremely successful. Szczęsny became Barcelona’s first goalkeeper, and the team with him between the posts was undefeated in Spain until… last weekend. Barca suffered a defeat in the clash with Sevilla, losing clearly, 1:4.
How did Szczęsny return to goal? Garcia suffered an injury and at the end of September the Spaniard had to undergo surgery on his injured knee. The situation is serious, although fortunately, the rehabilitation and return process are going well. What does this mean in practice? The Spaniard himself informed in one of the interviews that if everything goes well, he will return in about a month.
Szczęsny will therefore continue to guard Barcelona’s goal. The Pole will have the most important match of the round in Spain, El Clasico. The match between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Royal Stadium is scheduled for October 26.
It is worth adding that in recent days the Polish goalkeeper has also become famous thanks to a documentary telling the story of his life. “Szczęsny” produced by Prime Video is an interesting journey, showing the fate of a boy from Warsaw who, through London, Rome and Turin, is finally happy in the colors of Barca.
