Emergency landing in Krakow

The passengers of flight W62043 departed Krakow on July 24 at 5:48, 18 minutes after the scheduled takeoff time. The Wizz Air Airbus A321 was supposed to reach Stavanger on the southwestern coast of Norway after a flight of just over two hours. Unfortunately, shortly after takeoff, the pilots encountered an unidentified fault that prevented further air travel. Shortly after reaching cruising altitude, the crew decided to return to the international airport in Balice. The plane flew over Częstochowa and landed safely on the runway of the Małopolska airport after a dozen or so minutes. There were a total of 238 people on board: 231 passengers and 7 crew members. No one was injured.

“On July 24, during flight W6 2043D from Krakow (KRK) to Stavanger (SVG), operated by aircraft 9H-WBU, shortly after take-off, a technical problem with engine no. 2 occurred. In accordance with established safety protocols, the captain announced the PAN PAN signal and made the decision to return to the departure airport,” Wizz Air’s press office reported.

Upon arrival in Krakow, the passengers disembarked and received meal vouchers. The passengers were transported on a replacement plane, which took off from Krakow at 13:37 UTC and landed in Stavanger without incident at 14:41 UTC. “All procedures were carried out correctly, which is a testament to the professionalism and experience of our crew in effectively managing the situation. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank the passengers for their understanding and cooperation,” we read.

Wizz Air Problems

These are not the only problems that the Hungarian budget airline has had recently. A few days ago, Poles who were supposed to return home from their vacation were grounded at the airport. The plane departing from Majorca to Warsaw was supposed to be delayed by several hours, but it ended with an all-night wait in the terminal. The passengers did not receive any support from the carrier in booking accommodation, so they had to sleep with their families directly at the airport. Ultimately, instead of Saturday at 19:15, the passengers flew from Spain to Poland on Sunday at 14:30.
