“Will you show me this letter?” The Sejm press service denies Wąsik's entry
Maciej Wąsik informed that he had received a letter calling on him to “submit a declaration of resignation from his mandate as a member of the Sejm.” The Sejm press team reacted to his entry.
The Sejm press team issued a statement in connection with reports about a letter that was allegedly received by PiS politician Maciej Wąsik and members of parliament elected to the European Parliament. Wąsik wrote on Friday that he received a letter from the Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, which states that within 14 days from the announcement of the election results by the National Election Commission, he is to submit a declaration of resignation from his mandate as a member of the Sejm. “I'll keep it. He provides evidence for himself,” he commented. However, he did not post a photo of the magazine. “Will you show me this letter?” – asked blogger Kataryna.
The Sejm reacts to Wąsik's entry. “Is not truth…”
The Sejm press team denied these reports.
“It is not true that Mr. Maciej Wąsik received a letter from the Chancellery of the Sejm in which he was informed that 'he must resign from his mandate as a member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland within 14 days',” we read. Further on, the author of the message wrote that “Mr. Maciej Wąsik received a circular letter that all newly elected Members of the European Parliament received, regardless of whether and when they held public positions.”
He added that the announcement concerns the need to resign, within 14 days of being elected as an MEP, from a position or function which, under European Union regulations, cannot be combined with holding the mandate of an MEP, as well as from the position of minister, secretary of state and any other position which according to the provisions of Polish law, it cannot be combined with the function of a member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland or a senator.
It was also noted that the seat of former MP Maciej Wąsik could now be filled. “On June 13, the National Electoral Commission presented to the Speaker of the Sejm a list of further candidates for MPs from the list of the Law and Justice Electoral Committee who may take over the mandate of MP Wąsik. Appropriate information about the possibility of taking up a parliamentary mandate was sent to Mrs. Wioletta Kulpa on June 14.
– I firmly believe that (Maciej Wąsik's) parliamentary mandate was lost as a result of his conviction in a criminal court, I have absolutely no doubts about it. However, in his case, I refrained from publishing this decision due to the crisis in the Supreme Court – explained Szymon Hołownia at a conference on Wednesday.
