Will women in Poland work longer? “There is no such difference in any other European country.”

Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz

Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz once again confirmed that in her opinion the retirement age should be equalized in Poland. The Minister of Funds and Regional Policy drew attention to the gap between women and men.

Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz stated at the Impact’26 congress that the pension system is one of three things that require intergenerational solidarity. – There is no such difference between women and men in terms of age in any other European country – pointed out the Minister of Funds and Regional Policy. Pełczyńska-Nałęcz reported that in 2025, Poles contributed PLN 130 billion to the pension system from the budget, and this year it will be PLN 160 billion.

– Young people, working people, have an increasing burden of contributions so that seniors who have earned it through hard work can receive pensions – emphasized the leader of Poland 2050. Pełczyńska repeated that, in her opinion, women should work longer. – In what place, on what terms, with what incentives, with what safeguards – this is all subject to discussion – said Pełczyńska-Nałęcz.

The minister wants a debate on the retirement age. “It was treated as a taboo for over a decade.”

– It is also worth saying to yourself that a wise approach to the pension system is perhaps one of the most important changes and reforms that we will or should do for young generations. This is a reform for young people, also in the name of responsibility and mutual solidarity between generations, continued the Minister of Funds and Regional Policy. Earlier, in the Onet studio on the occasion of the event, Pełczyńska-Nałęcz said that the topic “had been treated as taboo for over a decade.”

The leader of Poland 2050 also addressed politicians. – Stop shouting, because the next outcry will immediately be: “They want to hurt people here, they want to force women to work until they die.” It’s all a lie. Nobody here wants to do anything bad to anyone. I don’t want anything like that. Allow for a normal public debate on one of the most important issues for young people, she concluded.
