Poles fear that rising electricity and gas prices will translate into high heating and electricity bills. The Minister of Energy reassures.

Autumn is fast approaching, and with it the heating season will begin. Gas and electricity prices on global stock exchanges have recently increased significantly. Poles are concerned about how this will translate into electricity and heating bills. The current tariffs are valid until the end of the year. What then? Minister of Energy Miłosz Motyka in an interview with “Fakt” emphasizes that price jumps on the markets do not translate directly into tariffs for households. At the same time, it announces talks with energy companies.

– The tariff approval process is controlled by the Energy Regulatory Office (it approves prices for households – ed.). We are counting on the president of the office to play an active role, so it is too early to talk about any increases – said the head of the Ministry of Energy, emphasizing that tariffs for households are officially approved.

Electricity and heating bills will increase. The minister calms down

The situation is similar with the prices of district heating, where the current tariffs are also approved until the end of the year. — These are lower than the frozen tariffs we had a few years ago. However, we must wait for tariff applications and decisions of the Energy Regulatory Office – says Motyka, adding that it is crucial that the war in the Middle East ends as soon as possible.

The war in the Middle East is affecting drivers. At the beginning of September, the Lower Fuel Prices (CPN) package ceased to apply. Back 23 percent VAT rates on fuels (the package assumed a reduction to 8%) immediately translated into an increase in prices at gas stations.

As calculations by e-petrol analysts show, after the 36-cent increase, a liter of diesel costs on average PLN 8.75. Experts emphasize that refueling diesel at Polish stations has never been so expensive before. The price of the popular “95” has also increased significantly, for which drivers pay on average PLN 7.89/l, which is 26 cents more than a week ago. After continuous declines since the end of April, the price of autogas has also increased (it was not included in the package). Its average nationwide price increased by 6 groszy, to PLN 2.95/l.
