Will this be the end of the notice? A revolution in receiving letters in the new year
From January 1, 2025, the Ministry of Digitization is introducing changes in sending and receiving official letters. From the new year, it will be possible to do this via the e-Delivery system. However, there is a catch.
E-Delivery is the electronic equivalent of a registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt. Thanks to this service, public entities, citizens and companies can use electronic delivery. They are legally equivalent to traditional registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt. The system is to be launched on January 1, 2025.
Who will have to use e-delivery?
It will be introduced in stages. At first, this service will be available to most offices, companies and professions of public trust. In further steps, all public entities will have an address for electronic delivery and the obligation to conduct digital correspondence. In this way, we will be able to exchange letters, e.g. with ZUS or NFZ. It is worth emphasizing that the use of e-Delivery by citizens will not be mandatory. Moreover, they will be able to opt out of this option at any time.
As we mentioned, however, there is a catch. To use this form of exchanging correspondence with entities, it will be necessary to set up an e-Delivery box. How to do it? This can be done in a few steps by submitting an application via the website mObywatel.gov.pl. Thanks to notifications, users will be able to keep track of the status of their correspondence.
Who pays for sending documents via e-Delivery?
As the Ministry of Digitization states on its website, correspondence will be free of charge:
-
from citizens and companies to public entities,
-
between public entities.
Public entities will pay for sending documents to citizens, companies and other non-public institutions.
The Ministry of Digitization indicated time savings as the greatest advantage of the new system. “There is no need to collect a notice or stand in queues at the post office, because letters from the office arrive directly to the electronic mailbox. You can read and respond to them at any time and anywhere. All you need is a computer, tablet or phone with Internet access,” the ministry said.
