Will There Be a Tax on Photovoltaics? This Could Be a Blow to the Industry

Photovoltaic taxation could increase tenfold. Experts are sounding the alarm that this could be the final nail in the coffin for the renewable energy sector.
New information has electrified owners of photovoltaic power plants. The Ministry of Finance is considering changes to regulations that would significantly increase fees for solar panels. This could be very bad news, especially for photovoltaic farms.
How much is the photovoltaic tax?
Currently, property owners who have solar panels in a ground photovoltaic installation must pay 2 percent tax each year. These installations are counted as structures, so the owners are liable for the tax.
However, it does not apply to people whose solar panel power does not exceed 50 kW and who only generate electricity for their own use. However, photovoltaic farms must pay a 2 percent tax on the value of the structures on which the photovoltaic panels are located.
Currently, for photovoltaic farms, such a tax may amount to a minimum of around PLN 5,000 per year. Meanwhile, there are reports in the media that taxation is to increase significantly – even tenfold.
How much will the photovoltaic tax be?
The draft bill amending the Agricultural Tax Act, the Local Taxes and Fees Act, the Forest Tax Act and the Stamp Duty Act assumes major legal changes. If, in accordance with them, photovoltaic supports and panels are recognized as a structure, the tax will increase significantly.
“The current version of the amendment opens a huge door for tax authorities to start charging tax also on the value of photovoltaic panels, which are a key cost component of PV installations,” Andrzej Nentwig told Gramwzielone.pl.
