Will the Parental Salary replace 800 plus? The Minister of Finance spoke

Andrzej Domański

The Development Plus Association proposes replacing 800 plus with the so-called Parental Salary. Today, Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański commented on the idea.

The Development Plus association established by former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki presented proposals to improve the demographic situation in Poland. The most important ideas included the introduction of the so-called Parental Salary. It would be payable to one of the parents of a child aged 0 to 3 years and would amount to the minimum wage (currently PLN 4,806 gross). The money would be treated as remuneration for work – subject to taxes and social security and health insurance contributions. In this way, the period of child care would translate into a higher future pension.

This means that the child’s parent, often a woman, but as in the case of 800 plus it will be the parents’ decision, receives a minimum wage from the state – contributed, subsidized, taxed, and this has several effects. First of all, the child becomes an element of life stability – Marcin Horała, one of the association’s leaders, explained in Wirtualna Polska’s “Tłit” program.

Funds for the Parental Pension would come from the liquidation of some of the existing programs. This includes “kosiniakowe”, “Grandma” and 800 plus, but only for children up to 3 years of age.

Domański about Parental Pay. “Grandma” enough?

Today, Minister of Finance and Economy Andrzej Domański referred to the concept of introducing a Parental Salary on RMF FM. – Prime Minister Morawiecki had 8 years to implement his ideas and they did not reverse the demographic situation. We are implementing our pro-demographic policy – said the head of the Ministry of Finance and Economy in “RMF FM’s Morning Talk”.

Domański mentioned in this context the “Active Parent” program, also known as “Grandma’s”, which has been operating since October 2024. – Funds throughout Poland go to families, but what is very important, they help in the development of the nursery network. We introduced this program because we realize that returning mothers to the labor market is difficult. These funds are intended to help in returning to the labor market, and therefore also in calculating contributions – explained by the RMF FM guest.
