The Polish national volleyball team was in the best eight of the European Championship 2026. The Polish women have a match against the Dutch ahead of them. Rate? Top four of the event.

Coach Stefano Lavarini’s team has already experienced ups and downs during the European Championship 2026. The Poles had problems especially at the beginning of the group phase. Victories over the much lower ranked Hungarians (3:0) or Latvians (3:1) did not inspire much optimism.

Subsequent matches, however, showed that Poland can be dangerous even to the defending champions, the Turkish team. In a match with many subtexts – resulting from the arrangement of the tournament ladder – the Polish volleyball players won against the favorites 3:2.

European Championship 2026: Will volleyball players win a medal? Two steps away from great joy!

If we add to this the group wins against the Germans (3-0) and against Portugal (3-0) in the play-off phase, the Polish women’s performance can be written and spoken about mainly positively. A place in the top eight of the Old Continent team is an important point achieved by coach Lavarini’s team.

However, it is no secret that the appetite is high, reaching for a place on the podium of the European Championship 2026. The Polish women will face the Dutch in the quarterfinals – scheduled for next Thursday (i.e. September 3). Interestingly, both teams have already played against each other in the 2026 season. In the Nations League competition, the Polish team won 3:1. The match took place on June 20 during the intercontinental tournament in Bangkok.

At that time, the best scorers on the Polish side were: Julita Piasecka (20), Magdalena Stysiak (13) and Monika Lampkowska (10). Each of the mentioned players is participating in the European Championship 2026, playing important roles in Lavarini’s team.

Men’s Volleyball Championship: Where and when to watch the Polish national team’s matches?

In the context of medal hopes, it should be remembered that the Polish national volleyball team has been waiting for a medal at a European Championship event since 2009. Then, for the last time, the Polish team could enjoy a place on the podium, the lowest one, i.e. valued at bronze.

Coach Lavarini’s team therefore faces a big challenge to overcome the weakness that has been going on for almost two decades.

At the last European Championships, held in 2023, the Polish team was eliminated in the quarterfinals by the Turkish team. As it turned out, Türkiye later won the final triumph, defeating the Serbians in the final (3:2). The bronze medal went to the Dutch.

It is worth adding that in the all-time European Volleyball Men’s Championship table, Poland ranks high in 5th place. This included two gold medals, four silver and five bronze. That’s a total of 11 discs. Of all (!) teams, only the leading representatives of the USSR (16 medals), a non-existent country, have more medals. Interestingly, the runners-up are… Russians.

Men’s European Volleyball matches are shown on Polsat Sport and online via the Polsat Box Go platform.
