Will Poland not budge on the issue of Ukrainian grain? The minister is clear

Stefan Krajewski assures that he remains in contact with the European Commission and EU commissioners, but does not intend to give up restrictions on Ukrainian grain. As he emphasized in the Morning conversation on RMF FM, previous decisions on this matter led to serious problems on the Polish market.

According to the minister, grain from Ukraine should be sent to third countries and not remain in Europe and disrupt trade relations. If it were to pass through Poland, the transport should take place under full supervision.

The embargo on Ukrainian grain is intended to protect farmers

Krajewski recalled that in 2022–2023, over 3.5 million tons of grain entered Poland without proper control. The imported products also included technical grain. The minister blamed the previous authorities for this situation.

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture noted that the frontline countries, including Poland, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria, suffered the greatest losses. If the European Commission expects the embargo to be lifted, it should – in his opinion – present other solutions that will effectively secure national markets.

Help Ukraine, but not at the expense of the Polish market

The minister informed that there are currently no talks on increasing the transfer pool of Ukrainian grain. He emphasized that Poland can help Ukraine, but this should not be done at the expense of domestic farmers and processors.

Krajewski also drew attention to the limited capacity of ports. In his opinion, it is also needed for the export of Polish grain, therefore it cannot be entirely allocated to the transit of products from Ukraine.

The minister responds to allegations regarding import

The conversation also touched upon the inflow of other Ukrainian agricultural products to Poland, including soft fruit and eggs. Krajewski rejected the allegations that the Polish market is flooded with them, describing such statements as intimidation.

He emphasized that the task of the services is to check and control products entering the country. He also recalled a batch of frozen raspberries that was not admitted to the Polish market because it did not meet the required standards.

German potatoes in Polish stores

The minister also referred to the presence of German potatoes in domestic stores. In his opinion, the data do not confirm that the Polish market is flooded with them. In the first half of 2026, 39,000 were imported. tons, while in previous years the annual import exceeded 100 thousand. tone.

Krajewski admitted that foreign products in Polish stores may irritate domestic producers. However, he pointed out that Polish food also reaches German chains, which in turn may arouse similar emotions among local farmers.
