Will Poland never adopt the euro? An eloquent survey

Euro w portfelu

Support for adopting the euro among Polish companies has fallen to the lowest level in history. Many of them believe that Poland will never adopt the EU currency.

There has been an ongoing debate in Poland regarding the adoption of the euro for years. How do representatives of large and medium-sized enterprises approach this issue? This was checked by Grant Thornton.

It turns out that in recent years the enthusiasm around adopting the European currency has decreased significantly. Back in 2011, support for the euro among business people was very high – as much as 85%. entrepreneurs declared their willingness to join the euro zone.

However, in the following years there was a systematic decline until the trend was finally reversed and in 2025 support reached only 23%, which means the lowest level in the history of the survey. As many as 66 percent do not want to adopt the EU currency. enterprises.

This means that currently the clear majority of managers of medium and large companies do not perceive adopting the euro as a desirable direction. Business caution is growing due to macroeconomic instability, crisis experiences in recent years and concerns about giving up our own currency. – emphasize the authors of the study.

Among medium-sized companies (50-249 employees), only 21 percent respondents support the adoption of the euro, while as many as 67 percent is against it. Support for the European currency is slightly higher in the case of large companies employing at least 249 employees – 33%, compared to 60%. against.

Why is companies’ favorability towards the euro decreasing? One of the reasons is probably the fact that the zloty exchange rate has stabilized in the last year. The main argument for the euro (exchange rate volatility) has therefore lost its strength.

Will Poland never adopt the euro?

The survey results show clear skepticism of business not only towards the idea of the euro itself, but also towards the feasibility of its adoption in the foreseeable time horizon. Only 4 percent respondents believe that Poland could adopt the euro as early as 2027–2028. More, 14 percent. respondents claim that this may happen in 2029-2031. This means that only less than one fifth of respondents believe in joining the euro zone before 2032. The most frequently mentioned scenario is the failure to adopt the euro at all. This opinion is expressed by as many as 34 percent. respondents. 15 percent respondents believe that the euro will appear in Poland in ten years at the earliest.

A SW Research survey for “Wprost” conducted earlier this year shows that every third Pole (34%) believes that we will adopt the euro by 2035. Nearly half of respondents (49.6%) do not believe in this scenario, and 16.3%. answered “I don’t know”.

The study was conducted in November 2025 on a sample of 100 owners and management board members of medium and large enterprises.
