Will Olympic gold bring victory? Here are the most important sports nominations of the year
For the 90th time, the best athlete of the year will be selected in the “Przegląd Sportowy” Plebiscite. Who will win in 2024?
It must be admitted that this particular plebiscite has a truly beautiful, rich tradition, dating back to 1926. It is the second oldest in the world, just behind its Swedish counterpart (since 1925).
“Przegląd Sportowy” and Polsat (in the past, including TVP) have just revealed the names of the people who were among the nominees for their successes in 2024.
Iga Świątek, Bartosz Zmarzlik, Aleksandra Mirosław – favorites of the plebiscite
The Olympic year is coming to an end. For this reason, there were many names who, let us remind you, brought a total of ten medals for Poland from the French capital.
As for the favorites, it seems that Aleksandra Mirosław – the only gold medalist of the 2024 Olympic Games – should rank very high. However, it should be remembered that in the case of a plebiscite, people voting play a huge role (by text message and via coupons in “Przegląd Sportowy” and “Fakt”). It may be that the final classification will be determined – as is very often the case – by the popularity of a given discipline.
Iga Świątek, Olympic medalist and winner of, among others, should also be high. tournament at Roland Garros. Bartosz Zmarzlik also won the next world championship and the championship title in Poland. And the speedway community can band together to actually get their important man on the podium. Moreover, fully deserved, considering the achievements of the titled speedway rider.
There are three nominations from the volleyball team: Joanna Wołosz, as captain of the women’s national team, and two men – Wilfredo Leon and Jakub Kochanowski. There is neither Bartosz Kurek (captain) nor Tomasz Fornal, the fans’ favorite and one of the team leaders.
The absence of any ski jumping representative is also significant, after the disastrous 2023/24 season of Poles in the World Cup.
