MEPs decided to adopt an act introducing the EU SAFE program. This is a program supporting the European arms industry. Poland will be its biggest beneficiary – we will receive it 43.7 billion euros in the form of preferential loans from the European Investment Bank.

Karol Nawrocki will decide about the future fate of SAFE. There is not much time to decide – In order for the money to flow to Poland, the government must sign a loan agreement with the European Commission in March.
For now, it is not known whether the president will decide to submit his signature to the bill. Political scientists drew attention to the fact that the head of state was facing a difficult decision. PiS MPs sharply criticize SAFE, claiming that it is a threat to Polish sovereignty.
– We cannot forget that Karol Nawrocki owes his presidency to Law and Justice. Signing the bill contrary to the PiS narrative could be perceived by the party’s electorate as an incomprehensible or even disloyal move, said Prof. Rafał Chwedoruk

On the one hand, there is a great opportunity, of course, you cannot fall into completely negative emotions around the SAFE program, but on the other hand, you cannot fall into such journalistic hurray-optimism – commented the politician.
The Polish discussion around the SAFE program did not escape the attention of the German media. The editors of “Tagesschau” drew attention to the sharp opposition of the national-conservative opposition.
