Wilfredo Leon with Olympic record. What a missile towards Americans

Wilfredo Leon is in great shape at the Olympic Games in Paris. The receiver is the leader of the Polish team and has already had several great performances. Such was the case in the clash with the Americans in the semi-final, which after a horror match Nikola Grbić’s team won 3:2. Leon scored 26 points and attacked with an efficiency of over 50 percent. In difficult moments, he, together with Tomasz Fornal, carried the Polish team, although everyone can be considered a hero.

In the semi-final against the Americans, Leon also attempted to break the Olympic record. It is no secret that he can serve brilliantly. One of the serves in the first set flew towards his rivals at a speed of 134 km/h. There has been no better result in the history of the four-year event. Until now, the German George Grozer has been at the top in this respect (132.6 km/h during the London Games).

This is another record for the 30-year-old. He holds the record for the best result in the world in history. In the 2023 European Championship match against Denmark, he hit the serve at a speed of 138 km/h.

Poland will play for gold

During the Olympic Games in Paris, Polish volleyball players are making sports history with every match. First, they broke the 21st century curse of quarterfinals when they defeated Slovenia 3:1. This was the first advancement to the semifinals at the most important sports event in 44 years.

Then the Poles beat the United States 3:2, which gave them the first Olympic final in 48 years and the second gold medal match in the history of Polish volleyball. This would be an extraordinary event, considering the adversity that the Polish team has won against. Grbić’s team will play for their dreams on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Their opponents will be the current Olympic champions, the French, or the world champions from Italy.
