Wilfredo Leon the new captain of the Polish national team! A surprising situation
An unusual situation occurred during the social match Poland – Brazil in volleyball. Wilfredo Leon appeared in the Atlas Arena with the “beam”.
To explain, the “Belka” in the number of volleyball player symbolizes the function of the team captain. Bartosz Kurek performs this function in the team led by coach Nikola Grbic. Playing number 6 on the T -shirt, an experienced attacker appeared on the pitch, next to Wilfredo Leon.
The problem, however, is that a mistake was made in the printing of costumes in which the Polish team appeared in the Atlas Arena in Łódź. For this reason, therefore, the Captain’s duties were therefore performed by the non -padded “six” and “nine”, that is Leon.
Thursday match with Brazil is the last test for the Olympic runners up before departure to the world championships. Poles will compete for the title of the best representation in the world in the tournament in the distant Philippines.
World Cup 2025 volleyballers: Where and when to watch matches of the Polish national team?
Polish volleyballers at the upcoming World Cup will play in group B. The opponents of Poles will be Romania (September 13), Qatar (September 15) and the Netherlands (September 17).

It is worth recalling that the tournaments of the World Cup in the 21st century are particularly successful for Polish volleyball players. Poland won two silver (2006 and 2022) and two gold medal (2014 and 2018). During the tournament in the Philippines, the Polish team will be included in the group of candidates for the final triumph.
Even more so after the recent gold VNL 2025. The second in the history of the League of Nations, previously Poles won in 2023. Plus, you should remember about the “predecessor” of VNL, i.e. the League of Nations, in which Poland won in the 2012 edition.
