The end of March this year brought a big shock in the Polish men’s volleyball community. Marcin Janusz, the national team’s quarterback, admitted that this was the end of his appearances in the national colors.

His teammate from the national team, Wilfredo Leon, spoke about Janusz’s situation. The star of PlusLiga and the national team did not hide his surprise.
– I didn’t know about Marcin’s decision earlier. I found out from his Instagram post. This is a big surprise for me, because I thought he would make it to the next Olympics. However, if he has health problems, I understand him perfectly. We will continue to play without him. Now he will probably watch the national team as a fan (…) It is sad if a player has to end his national team career for such reasons. And they say that sport is health – said the player of the national team and Bogdanka LUK Lublin in an interview for WP/SportoweFakty.
Indeed, looking at recent years, Leon and Janusz were the leaders of the Polish national team. Both men achieved several high-caliber successes, especially during the term of coach Grbic. These include the Olympic runner-up position (2024), the European Championship (2023) and the Nations League gold (2023).
Who will be Janusz’s successor in the Polish national team? It seems that coach Grbic will choose a solution proven in the 2025 season, i.e. the duo: Marcin Komenda (Bogdanka LUK Lublin) and Jan Firlej (PGE Projekt Warszawa).
